Is there anyone who would be interested in integrating a disc golf course in with the current course? The cost to integrate would be minimal (less than $5,000) and it would attract an entirely different group to the island. I play the USA course regularly and it is packed on the afternoons and weekends. I know there are several courses around the country that are both traditional and disc courses and it seems to work well. The only problem is that disc golfers are not used to paying much in the way of greens fees. thoughts?

I know nothing about disc golf. But, the suggestion sounds like it has the potential to increase the number of users of the golf course property.
While $5,000 may not sound like much, the golf course presently loses money each year and has to be subsidized by dues from the POA membership that does not play golf. The fact that you say disc golfers do not like to pay "...much in the way of green fees" sound like a problem from the start.
I really don't see how the POA can afford to accept another losing operation at the golf course. However, I ain't in charge.

Unlike a regular golf course, a disc golf course requires very little maintenance. It is my understanding that the great majority of the cost is installation of the baskets and tees. I think it would pay for itself in greens fees in 2-3 years not counting whatever incidental revenue you received from the people who came to play. I think it would be with looking into a little deeper. I never thought the skateboard park would get used but there are people using it every time I pass it.

I conducted a very informal survey of disc golfers Saturday at the USA course and here is the consensus. DI is considered a "cool" place and there would be a lot of interest in a course there. There is nothing around here that comes close to that type of venue. Most of the guys I talked to go to DI for the beach occasionally and would definitely be interested in playing disc there. All were willing to pay to play but the consensus maximum was $5 per person. Most thought you could easily get 3-4$ a head. Chickasabogue park chargers $2 per person. Doing the math, conservatively, it would take about 550 groups (average 3.5) to pay for the course. After that, it would be mostly profit.

Would the playing of disc golf interfere with the regular golfing? IE: Would a disc golfer at $3 a head cause a $15 a head ball golfer to not play? If they can exist side by side then there may be some synergies. Could be a NRDA request as it gives more folks access/incentive to visit the coastal area. Worth considering.

I know there are courses where they play side by side but I have never played one. I understand it can work. I will do a little Internet research and report back what I find
